MyLotto.co.nz – Lottery Service for Kiwi Residents Only
MyLotto.co.nz opened its doors online to the general public in 2008 and is owned and managed by the NZ Lotteries Commission of New Zealand. The site offers up 9 lotteries (don’t even try to find something like Mega-Sena, EuroJackpot or UK Thunderball there) all based in New Zealand. Wednesday’s weekly draw is the big one and is televised live by a major NZ TV station. Participation in any lottery offered on Mylotto.co.nz is restricted to players resident in New Zealand that have a valid bank account in that country. That does include Australians who are working and/or living there but it stops there. No other nationality or anyone in another country can play.

MyLotto Customer Concerns
Our team noted some players say when MyLotto.co.nz’s system can be slow especially when processing credit card information It does offer a download tool to speed this up, but this has caused some suspicion amongst wary users. Overall connection and stability of the site was also put into question [nzgeek.org]. There is no question that everyone on our team that went through their site, found it very slow to move through the different pages. It was frustrating!
We also noted that MyLotto.co.nz has used PHP List as their mailing list software which makes it susceptible to spammers as it is an open source software [geekzone.co.nz].
Customer Complaints at MyLotto.co.nz
Our team were not able to find many complaints but the comments we did find were serious allegations regarding security breaches which should never be permitted on an official government sponsored website. Remember, MyLotto.co.nz is managed by the NZ Lotteries Commission. You would expect that any platform to secure a website would be a priority.
General Issues re MyLotto.co.nz
It seems strange that MyLotto.co.nz only offers online lottery purchases to NZ citizens (with an NZ bank account) as well, only offers NZ lotteries. Part of the purpose of this site is to raise money for community initiatives and charities. Adding some of the larger lotteries available internationally would increase their sales which would increase their popularity which would increase the amount of money they could make available for communities.
The Bottom Line at MyLotto.co.nz
This is an online NZ lottery purchasing site for people resident in NZ – no more, no less. Given that there are only 4.5 million people (in New Zealand) with probably about 3 million eligible to play, the jackpot will always be fairly limited. Even taking into consideration the additional Aussies that are living there (NZ and Australia still reciprocal rights of residency), these lotteries are going to remain very small compared to the international market.
Officially Government Run
Variety of Lotteries
User Friendly Site
Only NZ Residents Can Play Here
For what it’s worth, we believe that MyLotto.co.nz does provide a fairly good service though there are concerns about its security. Anyone (even a Kiwi) who is serious about playing online lotteries is going investigate the larger lotteries internationally.
